My first hand made lamp.

The lamp with added crochet trim

The plain lampshade

After reading several books about traditional lampshade making i decided to give it a go. Although it was much more complicated that I’d first anticipated , I feel with practise I could use the techniques to develop my own lighting design. Making this shade taught me about the materials and techniques needed to give the lamp a professional finish.

Pattern cutting

I used a light cotton fabric that would disperse the light giving the lamp a warm glow. Creating the trims that line the shade was probably the most complicated aspect of production as it was difficult to keep the fabric trims straight. Keeping the fabric taught was also tricky but with the help of clothing pegs to keep things in place, the shade has a clean professional finish.
